The Bake

Ok, so in this tiny lil town of Denali Alaska there isn't much of a night life...or life in general.
All you really have to keep you sane is a couple gift shops, a subway, the crows nest and the Salmon Bake (otherwise just known as the Bake)
Many good times and many alcoholics have been birthed here, when evey day after work the same conversation goes down with friends and coworkers....
Q:what do you want to do tonight?
A: Lets just see whats up at the bake.
True they did have lots of fun things going on there sense it really is the only social hub of the town. They would have many of the following activities every week
Guitar hero night
Live bands
Live DJ's
Dominican Night
Bulgarian Night
and many many other things!

The ecclectic atmosphere is only paled by the ecclectic group of patrons that would gather here every night to share stories and failures over a cold one...or two...or three...
Luckily for 3/4 of the town, AA meetings are located only about a mile down the road.
Many good times at this place, it shall always be remembered :)

Husky Homestead

So myself and maryrose work for the large corporation ARAMARK, because of that we get lots of perks like doing all the tourist excursions for FREE!!!
This day we decided to do one called "Husky Homestead"
its owned and operated by Jeff King 4 time Iditarod champion and is recognized as one of the "Winningest mushers in the world".
The tour included: Meeting champion sled dogs, Cuddling husky puppies and a 1 1/2 hour kennel tour and sled demonstration.

Its was actually a really great learning experience, not only about the dogs themselves, but about the actual Iditarod race which is more then 1,150 miles across harsh Alaskan sled dog trails in the dead of winter.
the race goes from Anchorage in south central Alaska, to Nome on the western Bering Sea coast and usually last between 10-17 days.

More power to them, I'd rather stay nice and warm....
But it was still great to learn about. :)

You, Me & Mr. Toad

Well,

today Toad (<-Wes) and myself decided to introduce his pup Casualty into the wild and let him enjoy a rare taste of nature, obviously its not something he gets to romp about in very often living in an apartment in Tempe...

So we thought a trip up north to Sedona and Oak creek canyon was in order *wheeee!*

Photobucket

After checking the tires, loading up on energy drinks and cheetos (and these weird crunchy seasoned fries he eats that come in a bag...*scary*) we were ready to set out!!!!

Photobucket

Sadly Casualty thought he earned the right to the front seat (not posed, this is really how he sits...haha)

Photobucket

so anyway half way into the trip the boys got bored and started sparring with eachother *kids*....

Photobucket

...oh and later on we ran across this crazy DENTIST place for kids...doesn't that make you want a root-canal????...sorta...kinda....ok, maybe not... but still cool!!!

Photobucket

so finally right as toad was about to break from his car-madness (becuase I was making him listen to my Hippity-hop muzak!!!)

Photobucket

we arrived to our first destination, Oak creek canyon!!!!!..simply beautiful.

Photobucket

(Now a moment for toads quick costume change so he can play in the water with the mutt'pup)

(leathers)

Photobucket

(casual)

Photobucket

Amazing!

Now the boys waste not a moment before plunging into the fridgid depeths!!! (like 70 degrees..hahaha)

Photobucket

and as you can see, casualty isnt as big a fan of the water as he thought he was going to be....

Photobucket

the DRAMA strikes!!!! just when Casualty thinks he is going to be swept away in the high tide, he clings to a rock at the last second!!!!..ok, so he is just lazy and thought the rock was a better idea then paddling any longer...

Photobucket

finally when they were done frolicking in the aqua, it was time for another one of Wes' wardrobe changes (back into leathers) so we can just walk around and enjoy the scenery..

(change)

(purty)

(strike a pose)

later on in our hike we get to a point where we have to pass over a very VERY shallow part of the creek....in fear of getting soaked again, Casualty opts for the "maybe I can run faster then the water and not get wet, approach".-sadly it failed.

(on your mark.....get set.....)
Photobucket

(GO!!!!!)
Photobucket

even though he is a soggy failure, we decided to praise him like a champion anyways....

Photobucket

Then later on we took a couple deranged family photos.....

Photobucket

Photobucket

and then Wes' insisted on a standing "side-by-side" picture...he didnt take into account the slight difference between 6'4" and 4'10"...silly goose...bahaha

(hello, belly button how are you today?)
Photobucket

So, finally we decided to head down a little ways and go hang out in Sedona, where we ran across this adorable little Korean restaurant named "Mago"

Luckily the service was quick because I thought Toad was going to eat the menu...

Photobucket

and also as luck would have it, on the patio where we were dining they had a human sized korean tiki thing...(well if your MY size its human sized...haha)

Photobucket

so next up after food is naturally SHOPPING!!!!

Toad wanted to take home this mini "big boy" display!

Photobucket

and I found those most amazing and fashionable hat that only the fancy ladies of Sedona were wearing.....ok so maybe it was just WIGGLY AND AWESOME!!!!!

Photobucket

so after all the playing, running, jumping, swimming, laughing, eating and shopping it was finally time to say goodbye to our daytime runaway and head back to the blinding lights of the city...

but luckily we plan on a bunch of us renting a cabin up there after the big snows this winter, so let it snow, let it snow baby!

:) :)
